Eingeleitet durch das Präfix „Kurz:“ werde ich in den kommenden Wochen versuchen aktuellen Meldungen rund um das wissenschaftliche Publizieren im Netz kurz und knapp zu dokumentieren.

Im Rahmen des EU-Projektes Eurocancercoms wurde die Einstellung von Krebsforscherinnen und -forschern zu Open Access untersucht:

 „The survey revealed that the internet is used by 94% of cancer researchers for professional activities every day, with the majority accessing PubMed and online journals daily or 2-3 times a week. […] With nearly three quarters of survey respondents having already published work in Open Access journals, the survey indicates a growing acceptance of the OA route to publication. Even more convincing is the finding that 88% of respondents believe that publicly funded research should be made available to be read and used without access barriers.“

JISC hat einen interessanten Workshop-Report zum Umgang mit Open-Access-Publikationsgebühren veröffentlicht: (Dank an Birgit Schmidt für den Hinweis.)

„On 25 May 2011, JISC Collections organised a workshop of publishers, libraries and funders, to discuss the organisational and administrative issues around the transition to open access models for scholarly journal publishing, particularly the future of the hybrid model.“

ELIXIR: Dänemark, Finnland, Großbritannien, Niederlande und Schweden haben gemeinsam mit dem European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) eine Memorandum of Understanding zur Umsetzung des Infrastrukturvorhabens ELIXIR unterzeichnet:

„ELIXIR is a pan-European initiative to operate a sustainable infrastructure for managing and safeguarding biological information in Europe. It will secure public access to information about the building blocks of life, including genes, proteins and complex networks. This will support life science research and its translation to medicine and the environment, the bio-industries and society to deliver economic growth.“

Im Rahmen der Frankfurter Buchmesse findet am 14. Oktober 2011 ein Symposium zum Thema „Economy and Acceptance of Open Access Strategies“ statt.
